Museum Abteiberg’s long-standing partners

Museum Abteiberg’s work would not be possible without the ongoing support of its supporters. Their contributions are essential to realizing many of the museum’s exhibitions, collection displays, learning programs, research, and conservation projects.

Museumsverein Abteiberg

Since its founding in 1902, Museumsverein Abteiberg (known as Museumsverein Mönchengladbach until 2019) has supported the museum both financially and in other ways. Membership fees, proceeds from the sale of annual editions, and donations support the museum’s program and enable the association to undertake its own projects at Museum Abteiberg.

Founded in 1980, the Förderkreis im Museumsverein is a dedicated group of association members whose additional annual donations fund a joint acquisition for the museum’s collection. The Förderkreis meets with the museum’s leadership to discuss the annual acquisition during the first quarter of each year. The group also organizes day trips and longer excursions.

Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach

Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach has supported First Sunday at Museum Abteiberg since 2006. On the first Sunday of every month, admission is free for all visitors, the open art studio offers creative activities for children and teenagers, and complimentary short and themed tours take place every hour.

The Sparkassenstiftung für Kunst und Wissenschaft, established in 1978 to mark the 125th anniversary of Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach, supports art, culture, and research into the history of Mönchengladbach. Since then, more than 40 works of art have been acquired with the foundation’s support and made available to Museum Abteiberg on permanent loan.

Landschaftsverband Rheinland

As a regional association of municipalities, the Landschaftsverband Rheinland supports municipal museums and their work on collections and local history.

It provided substantial support for Museum Abteiberg’s research into the internationally significant period under Johannes Cladders and the program he developed for the Städtisches Museum Mönchengladbach from 1967 to 1978. The results are available on the digital archive website at www.museum-moenchengladbach-1967-1978.de.

From 2023 to 2026, the Landschaftsverband Rheinland continued its support by helping to fund Museum Abteiberg’s comprehensive new website. The website also includes an extensive archive that gives interested audiences and researchers access to past exhibitions and events, as well as lectures and texts from Museum Abteiberg’s program.
